I have scheduled a Product Hunt launch for TiddlyWiki v5.3.7 that will go live on July 10th, 2025 12:01 AM PDT .
To get the best exposure, we need to get as many upvotes and comments as we can. All the product launches happen at the same time of day, so it’s important to get votes and comments as soon as possible.
Product Hunt is a popular hub for online product launches with a voting and ranking system. TiddlyWiki has already launched twice, in 2017 and 2020. The second time we reached number 2 in their charts. I think it’s a good way to advertise ourselves to a broader audience. Most launches on Product Hunt are for commercial products which makes a consumer open source product like TiddlyWiki stand out much more.
The launch is currently only accessible if you have the link, and will go live tomorrow.
The voting is now open. After an hour we’ve only garnered one vote, and no comments, putting us at #52. Let’s hope the only way is up. I’ll post a few updates through the day if anything interesting happens.
I believe the voting runs for 24 hours, and then another batch of launches replaces today’s launches.
Product Hunt itself is quite far from us culturally, coming from right in the middle of the world of dodgy startups and hustles. Accordingly they harvest data and whine for attention just like all the others. I always access the site through a private browsing tab, but doubt that that is bulletproof. So, I appreciate very much people’s willingness to engage with this hive of scum and villainy.
Next time, if possible, don’t choose the hour “12” because in spite of “AM” it causes confusion; some time-conversion sites don’t have “12 AM” but call it “00 AM”. And I suspect this is also why a google search for 12:01 AM PDT in stockholm gives the answer “21:01 Thursday, in Stockholm” (which is in about 9 hours from now).
Hm, the site only allowed me to sign in via existing accounts (google, X, fb etc). I selected google. No spam or anything thus far at least. But it is possible to disable the google-producthunt connection using a google setting.
Regardless of the above and regardless of outcome; Thank you Jeremy for the initiative!
(Agree with @Scott_Sauyet: that is quite an icky-feeling site; now going to see if I have been spammed, as there was one weekly newsletter I couldn’t find a way to unsubscribe to …!)
Upvoted, left a review, and commented on the page. I agree with the others about the weirdness of the site - it forced me onto that AI mailing list that I couldn’t opt out of on sign up and I was not a fan of that. Regardless, I’m happy to show my support for TiddlyWiki, especially if it means it’ll bring in new people to try it.
It took me an hour to figure out my log-in strategy. Having to sell your soul to make an upvote is a bit of a hard sell, unfortunately. I imagine some people just gave up.
It’s kind of weird that it uses the west coast of North America as the start point, especially since it would be midnight there. 12:01 am PDT is one minute after midnight in California.
PDT is GMT-7. Stockholm is GMT+2. So you should be able to add 9 hours to the start time. So it should run from starting at 09:00 Stockholm time.
Looking at the other products, it’s a deeply eclectic selection. Also, 6 of the top 10 feature “AI” in their descriptions. Including “Grok”, which has been getting media coverage the last few days.
