TiddlyDesktopRS on Android Play Store - Test phase

I saw the option for one way sync in the recent update … I will test it out when I am back home… Thanks for the quick update @BurningTreeC

@BurningTreeC can you make templates for Android share from common webpages like x.com, talk-tiddlywiki forum, youtube, images copied to clipboard etc. Separate templates for each of these situations. Currently the tiddlers imported by sharing from these sites have unwanted contents in the text field which are not useful. If certain metadata can also be extracted from these shared contents and added as tiddler fields, it would be useful. That would make our life easier so that we don’t have to keep on editing the tiddlers on desktop those are imported using android share from our phone

Hi @arunnbabu81

I can only make the app choose automatically which template to use by domain.
Currently it scrapes the webpage’s metadata and includes that.

You will probably really want a mechanism to control it yourself and that’s what I would like to offer.

Let me think about it

This is one thing that is hugely missing for Tiddlywiki compared to other note taking apps… Easy note taking in mobile phone require an efficient and speedy android share option with good extraction of clipped data and metadata… Eagerly waiting to see what you will be coming up with

Same as yesterday. If the desktop has “send-only” selected, still receives new tiddlers from phone.

Trying the other way around. Phone set to “send-only”, desktop bi-directional. The phone receives tiddlers created on desktop.

Also just noticed, that when you open a file, the setting reverts to “bi-directional” no matter what you had it set to. You have to make the setting each time, after the file is opened.

Saw the new update with templates and domain rules. Want to learn how to use it effectively. Hope you add a few examples in the app itself which can be deleted if required

When sharing selected text, the provided title is “Shared via”.

The domain matching did not seem to work (I used “sciencenews.org” for testing).

Templates disappear from the manager (usually one template remains). The domain rules disappear entirely.

Template manager throws away your changes. I’m wondering if it’s because the only way to get out of the manager after you’ve saved is to click on the “X”, which it interprets as “cancel”.

Template manager still doesn’t persist changes.

@BurningTreeC can give some examples of how to use the template and domains rules

For me, the templates aren’t saving. So there’s no functionality. Are templates saving for you?

No, templates are not getting saved for me also

@Mark_S with the current version(0.0.95) , templates are getting saved. Still domain rules are not getting saved

Everything seems to work, though maybe not as useful as I would hope. The domains save, but don’t form a list the way the templates do. The template is applied by domain, but only if I share the entire page. If I select text and share that, then it doesn’t match the domain. When sharing text the title that appears is “Share via”, not the title of the article. But this is apparently coming from the browser – same thing happens with Joplin.

Be sure when you test to do an uninstall.

Sharing the entire page actually only gives me a synopsis, but maybe this is determined by the web page.

This is with FF. Maybe it will work different with a different browser.

It seems like you could use this for collecting bookmarks.

Oh, if I share from Vivaldi, I can capture the text and it assigns the template correctly and it assigns an appropriate title (rather than “Share via”). So the browser does make a difference.

It might be helpful if we had an additional variable like “time” or “timestamp”. or even something with a unique identifier (“unique”)

The reason is that if you have multiple clippings out of the same web page, each one will be sent to the TW file with the same title. Being able to provide a title that is a little unique for each title would facilitate quick collection of shared text.

Ut oh. Templates save, but Rooms don’t and I can’t sign in to the relay. Guess I’ll test again later.

Edit: After shutting down and re-starting, it was able to save rooms again.

Neither raw text mode nor web clip mode save internal formatting or, more importantly, links

Edit: This might be a limitation of the browser or of the page I’m using.

A quote mark is put before and after content, which probably isn’t necessary.

Edit: The quote mark apparently is created by the browser (or web page).

One good thing I found with the android share template is that if we add ``` as prefix and suffix to content, wikitext shared by various users and experts in this forum can be easily shared into our bookmarks wiki without needing much content editing.
