@jeremyruston What is your internet bandwidth? Last year when you have live chat with Chinese community, it was good enough. Or maybe vdo ninja require too much bandwidth.

Just tested, Seems not too much

Can you guys believe it -

20 YEARS ! ! !

Thanks @twMat @linonetwo I think the problems were both my internet connection suddenly deteriorating, and my own unfamiliarity with the software stack. The recording seems to be fairly solid, just frustrating that so much of the discussion is about the sound and lag!

I’m planning to hold another livestream tomorrow at 3pm UK time, and am hopeful that we’ll nail the technical issues.

That would be 10 AM EST, correct?

Looking forward to it then :>

I guess the problem could be the parallel conference and upstream to YouTube.

I think this page will list the stream start times in your local timezone:

I’m using a fairly standard setup:

  • Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) for the basic live streaming setup - https://obsproject.com/
  • The web app https://vdo.ninja/ for the video conferencing. This app is designed to integrate with OBS and is very to set up

I think I’ve got things figured out from tomorrow, fingers crossed.

@jeremyruston

You have a time machine? Bloody typical. <chuckles>

I’m a tad confused, though – do I attempt to join from YT or should I start my OBS then go the https://vdo.ninja/ route?

And what’s your confidence level re the lag issue? Solved?

The vdo.ninja video conference is for people who are contributing to the livestream, for example by giving a demo. There are limited numbers. For people who just want to watch and ask questions should join via YouTube, and use the live chat feature for questions.

I think the best approach for the live stream is to treat it more like a podcast with rotating guests than a live recording of a big multi-party Zoom. It’s hard for viewers to track conversations with many participants, and we should reflect on TiddlyWiki’s philosophy on optimising for reuse, and perhaps strive to get the right balance between fun in the moment and making something that will be interesting for viewers in the future.

The lag issue was because due to an error on my part I wasn’t present as director in the video call, and so Simon couldn’t hear me except by playing the YouTube stream, which necessarily has a lag from the live experience in the chat room. That’s why participants in the video chat need to mute the YouTube stream, and just rely on the video chat.

ditto. Makes sense.

Thanks.
