[tw5] Maybe I don't understand the typical use case of TiddlyWiki

It would seen that web clipping would be a central function of web based note taking software. There is one add-on TiddlyClip https://tiddlywiki.com/static/TiddlyClip%20by%20buggyjay.html
Is 7 years old. The links on the above page don’t work and it only works on Firefox and seems to have fewer features than similar web clippers in say, EverNote.

Another issue is getting bookmarks out of a browser and I to TiddlyWiki. In my mind TiddlyWiki will replace the function currently and poorly served by bookmarks. But importing bookmarks also seems not to be a central component of TiddlyWiki.

Not trying to be a jerk I’m just wondering if these are two indications that TiddlyWiki is not well suited for my use.

I’m starting to make DIY videos. I want to use TiddlyWiki to collect and organize information and referabout projects and

Oops hit send before I was done.

I want to use TiddlyWiki to collect and organize information and references about projects that I want to do videos about. I also want to collect all my research and post it on a webpage that will serve as a central repository for my online activity. It will be linked from my social media, YouTube, TikTok etc. Many of my projects are more technical and I want the background information to be available and to be able to update it in a single place…

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

Oops, I hit post before I was finished.

I want to use TW to collect and organize information when I’m researching for the videos that I make. I also want to uae TW to create webpages with background and details for the projects. YouTube, TikTok and social media will link to the page so I can update the information in one central place.

Is TW a good choice?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried selecting an area of a web page, and dragging that selection to a TiddlyWiki instance and dropping to create a new untitled tiddler?

Seems to be working A-1.

Without seeing it in action, I’m not sure what you mean by using TW to create webpages with bckground and details for the projects.

For some sample use cases for TiddlyWiki, here are some of mine:

I don’t know what you mean by “the links don’t work”. They work fine. But that particular page isn’t well maintained. It’s true that most developers don’t like to document, especially if they don’t think anyone is paying attention.

A better place to go is the github repository: GitHub - buggyj/tiddlyclip

The developer continues to maintain the project and is very helpful – I’ve been corresponding with him most of the last week! It works with Chrome and is highly configurable. It’s pretty hard to keep up with Evernote that has had millions of dollars at its disposal, but tiddlyclipper does a pretty good job.

The surprising thing is how few people seem to reference tiddlyclip. You would indeed expect it to get more notice.

There’s been some light discussion regarding bookmarks. My feeling is that it’s very hard to compete with the bookmarking system that’s already built into your browser.

What I do for my bookmarks in TW is to set a title, tags (including ‘Bookmark’), some descriptive text and a url field. Then have a bookmark viewer template that displays the link. I have this as part of a tag-tree structure of which Bookmarks are just one part. But I use a variety of technologies (esp xBrowserSync) to manage bookmarks, so I don’t have everything in one basket.

For tiddlyclip, the main activity is on the tiddlyclip plugin’s discussion page:

Thanks for the link to the GitHub

Just to close the loop, in the above image of the page, after “BuggyJay” the links TiddlyClip and Foxfox go 404

To the contrary, I feel that most browser bookmark systems suck. It is very hard to organize and sort.
TW will be a high improvement.

I just meant to use the ability to make a static webpage out of my notes, links and supporting comments from TW.

How can I reply with part of the comment included. Using Google groups on my phone. Tried desktop mode

You don’t have to worry about replying with part of the comment included.

Well, not in GG. TiddlyTalk, different.

In GG, I see in your reply all of the text to which you are replying, so easy to figure out the context of your reply to, uh, the reply.

Just need to click on the three dots after your text. Like in this case, you just need to click on the three dots (when in Google Groups) right under this message.

(I am Google Groups centric, finding TiddlyTalk way too difficult for my abilities/challenges. But then, I do not do the internet thing on mobile devices. Yuck.)

Oh! Those aren’t real links. The only link that matters is the one in the middle with the tiddlyspot.com address. Did you try that one?

This is one of those things you learn to take for granted, though I can see how it could be confusing. Do you notice that those first “links” are in italics? That means there is no link. These happen by default in TW whenever you have camelcase (e.g. CamelCase) words. They can be turned off by adding a tilde in the front of the original text, or for all of the text in your own tiddlywiki file, but after you’ve been doing this for a half decade or more you don’t even think of them. In the original concept, making words in camelcase turn into links to other tiddlers (notes) was a quick way to make links between concepts. However, it’s one of those cool ideas, like bell-bottom jeans, that hasn’t stood the test of time.
