[tw5] If possible, can GG continue to co-exist with TiddlyTalk?

I gave TiddlyTalk a go, and it is like death by a million cuts, cognitively speaking.

Too many design issues with TiddlyTalk for me to operate with it.

The design of GG, for all of its warts, works for me because of lack of features, because of the simplicity.

So I just have to manage sensory/cognitive overload and over-stimulation from: number of discussions, number of participants/members, number of forks within one conversation.

GG feels very much like Gmail, so there isn’t much, if any, of a transition from one to the other. Continuous transitions in how to think/work/anything, that gets pretty nerve-wracking and exhausting.

So if there is no cost/burden/inconveniences to the current integration of the two forums, please keep this GG around. (Worst-case deal, I can create my own GG as a place to share code/videos when it is time to pull the plug on this GG.)

I really don’t think TiddlyTalk can be modified to accommodate me, and I don’t think it should be modified to accommodate me. I believe TiddlyTalk is best for the community as-is.

Besides, trying to explain every little thing that is challenging to me, and why it is challenging to me, that is way too overwhelming (more to think about, more to somehow communicate, …). And depressing.

Charlie,
I would be surprised if you are the only one, that need the simpler GG for some reason. Also from time to time some earlier tiddlywiki users return to GG - and of course Tiddlywiki after some years.
I hope we can keep GG around. Many or few needing it - we should not miss out on any of you.

One would think a no-brainer because GG costs nothing, but not quite the no-brainer if there are costs/efforts on the TiddlyTalk side to maintain integration.

If it is not a pain in the caboose to keep that integration, it might be good to completely alter the header for this GG and just have a two-liner that says the main forum is over at TiddlyTalk, and this GG and TiddlyTalk has some integration such that discussions started in GG are accessible via both forums. And a short blurb about GG kept around for those who are at their best with minimalist design. (I think that’s something that could be done now, seeing how well TiddlyTalk has been received.)

Something like that.

I have no idea how many users that used GG or if they are all moving to Talk Tiddlywiki. There is also the possibility that some are moving to other places.

Knock on wood, moving from those other places to TiddlyTalk ?

Agreed, for all its faults, I find GG easier to use, and would like the group here to remain active. TT is just fussy and annoying.

Kosmo,

I do not think it is just fussy and annoying. More material will be collected in one place over time and be easier to find. Example the How to and the Showcase categories - and more.

It is worth testing Talk tiddlywiki out for some time - if at all possible. Some of us have not used Discourse before and need some time to find out how it really works.

GG active or not does not help much if most of the activity has moved.

Thanks to this thread, I’ve just discovered that there was an other tw forum! It could be a regular announce here, for GG is a logical step to look out for tw user list, isn’t it?

So I can’t compare the two services yet.
