How long is talk.tw gonna be experimental?

I think the experiment has been successful. I am inclined to remove the word “experimental” from the GG header notice, so it would be listed as simply another “alternative”, just like the current https://twitter.com/TiddlyWiki and https://www.reddit.com/r/TiddlyWiki5/ links.

And what’s it take to prove it is better?

Although many (but not all) have said they now prefer https://talk.tiddlywiki.org/, “better” is a matter of personal opinion. I don’t think it needs to be “proven” to be “better”… it’s merely another site for TiddlyWiki info.

And what if it is better, are we gonna shut this here down then?

IF the frequency of posts here drops to near zero, then I would be inclined to change the GG header to indicate that the discussion has “migrated” to https://talk.tiddlywiki.org/, just as we have done with the https://groups.google.com/g/tiddlywikidev discussion, which was moved to https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/discussions and has had a total of 5 GoogleGroup posts since mid-June 2021. In any case, I don’t think we should ever completely “shut this here down”, as there are many links external to this group. As such, it will always be at least a historical resource for older discussion threads.

I think “experimental” can be removed now.

It is all about perspective. I don’t find TiddlyTalk better at all. It is a challenge to use the thing.

If want to say it is better for the great majority, fine. But a blanket statement that it is better, that’s it, that’s all, for everybody is a load of poop.

I plan to update tiddlywiki.com to link to talk.tiddlywiki.org shortly, and I think that will be the point where it stops being an experiment.

Best wishes

And I meant to add that as Eric suggests, I intend to leave the Google Group open, with both forums being used for official postings for the moment.

IMO the time is ripe! I think newcomers post here without realizing that this GG is now a “subset” of talk. And they may mistakenly believe the community is less active than it really is.

Other than then removing the word “experimental” from the GG forum header here, I would also propose to modify that header message to mention that “Any posts made here in Google groups also appear as copies in talk.tiddlywiki.org” or some such.

The feature in Talk to include copies from here is a double edged sword; On the one hand it might incentivize to go over here if there’s an interesting discussion that one feels the urge to participate in. But on the other hand, one gets the information from here without having to come here, so why bother going here…?

I inclining towards the latter, i.e it is getting rarer and rarer that I reply to posts here on GG. It’s just more fun in Talk… hearts and badges and stuff, and easy to edit posts, and overall more action in Talk. But it bothers me that there may be people here in GG who think “this is it” - that the community is not very active and that it is not sure one gets a quick reply.

The Talk forum has proven itself superior in many regards and it is IMO time to not only remove the “experimental” reference but to officially make it the primary discussion forum for the community because we risk giving the wrong impression of the community and the project otherwise.

Hi Mat,

You should have a look at other lists in GG. … If you visit them and the posts are eg: 1-3 months apart you could say … “this is it”. … Here there are still several posts a day and the responses are still quick. … The amount of posts is nothing compared to “Talk”, but I don’t think the community and / or the project looks abandoned here.

On the other hand I think the header should be updated. … We may remove the “experimental” flag of the link to talk.tiddlywiki.com at the group header. IMO the header should look more like this:
