TW, A.I. & the World Leader (Giffordius the 1st)

cc: @DaveGifford

Hopefully as World Leader you will be fair and discuss The Spear Of Destiny without needing A.I. …

As the recent Papal Encyclical — “Maginifica Humanitas” adumbrates …

"Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together.”

I am very aware that this post may seem weirdly off-topic.

I am actually very concerned to understand the social & cultural implications of “AI” happening way too fast to clearly see what is going on.

I am totally sure this has implications for TW.
TW is special. Protect her.

Whilst I now understand that A.I. “vibe coding” support (a fancy name for iterative stab-in-the-darkism) is proving really useful for many TW users / developers—though A.I. implications are much bigger than such as an organized code-base.

Okay.

Q: Do you feel, taking TW as a test case, that your wiki are under A.I. threat?

p.s. — A major issue with “AI” is we currently lack suitable language to discuss it impartially. I’m groping to grok (NOT Grok) the thing in a vast forest of verbiage.

Wait, @TiddlyTitch, the king of adding definitions to many of his posts, for the first time (maybe?) uses a term I don’t know… and it doesn’t come with a definition?! What’s the world coming to?

For those who want to know adumbrate means

  • transitive verb: To give a sketchy outline of.
  • transitive verb: To prefigure indistinctly; foreshadow.
  • transitive verb: To disclose partially or guardedly.
  • transitive verb: To overshadow; shadow or obscure.

Thank you. I feel much better now.

And here I thought Adumbrate meant when they try to overcharge you for something by giving you…

…a dumb rate…

Hi @TiddlyTitch,

Only once did I try vibe coding, about a year or more ago, to see how close ChatGPT could come to creating a lightweight TiddlyWiki clone. It didn’t get very far, and every time I would give another instruction, it would confuse versions of what it was doing and make errors that we had corrected in a previous round. It took maybe a half hour to see this was a bad idea.

That was around the time the saving became an issue again, so I wanted to see my options. But now with v2 of TiddlyStow I feel like I am back to the level of productivity I had when I was using Timimi.

I don’t feel my wikis themselves are under AI threat. I am not sure what that would mean. And the only time I use ChatGPT to generate content is if I ask it a question and I really like the answer it gives me. Then I post it as a pdf and it is stated clearly that it is my question to ChatGPT and its answer. I have only done that maybe three times. Here is my favorite one: Chat GPT conversation on the 19th century's focus on time - Dynalist It gave me helpful answers but also missed some significant items which I correct it on in the chat. In general I have found it helpful, but I can usually smell when it is making things up or guessing. I thought it would be good for generating a bibliography of works in Spanish on the books of the New Testament. It gave me a bunch of fake titles, or matched an author with the wrong book title. So I had to do the bibliographies myself. Where I have found it to be especially helpful is in generating Library of Congress call numbers for books, since I register any new books to the seminary library.

I tend to ask how it knows what it knows, or to cite sources, or to be blunt with me. I have sometimes seen tendencies to tell me what I want to hear, or frame the answer as a person with my religious background would frame it rather than answer from an impartial academic perspective.

I do use DeepL to speed up and improve the quality of my Spanish output. But the writing I do myself. I do not produce actual content using AI except for the exception noted above.

I have not attempted to integrate AI to TiddlyWiki in any way. So I can’t speak to that.

Not sure if anything I have said is helpful. This is just a “sketchy outline”, which I am “disclosing guardedly” and I would hate to “overshadow” anything you have heard elsewhere. (that is a sentence with @Scott_Sauyet in mind…)

Blessings to all!

Given the grandiose description of me in the title of this thread, I should respond by saying THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Your efficiency and determination (a.k.a. “get a conclusion”) with ChatGPT is
meet.

Right.

I’m struggling to articulate my worries. Largely because “AI” is become a moniker for several disparate things.
If you are wary: that over-generalising bombastic A.I. moniker may be hiding a multitude of sins?

Of course TW, herself, is well equipped to rebuff A.I. advances (“at this time”).

BTW, I really liked the details in your post. That clearly illustrate the value of the thinking Singleton, you, over & above any putative Singularity.

Giffordius, comments to … #2

Serendipitously that search / ChatGPT “conversation” fell into my remit (topics of interest).

It illustrates a couple of things.

  • LLMs have no intelligence per se; merely frequency counts.
  • Refinement to answers better for asker comes from your human Prompting

FWIW, that “conversation” does touch many of the factors concerned with Where, Why & When the Great Divergence happened (and obliquely raises why didn’t it happen in China long, long ago?).
A topic of infinite irresolution & waffle.

May intelligent prompting stay with you,
