i came across the excellent open-source gridfinity system, originally created by Zach Freedman, and was looking through the amazing things the community has done with this system. although it started as a modular workbench/desk storage system, it was expanded by the community into things like modular game boards, utility belts, computer prototyping, and more, well beyond the original scope.
it reminded me of tiddlywiki, something that is nominally for journalling and keeping notes but has been expanded by the community into games, online shops, historical archives, trackers, programming IDEs, etc etc etc… the beauty of open source
we’ve been able to use the “base plate” of the core to build any kind of modular web-based software that fits our needs/desires, and we can “slot in” things other people have made to build off of each other and fill gaps in our own creations!
