I realized today is the 5 year anniversary of Tiddlyhost.
It wasn’t announced publicly until a few days later, but I can see the very first users and sites all have created timestamps of Feb 12, 2021.
To reminisce a little, I think this commit is the moment when there was a real working production Tiddlyhost server for the very first time.
If you’ve ever been a user of Tiddlyhost, a suggester of features, a reporter of problems, or if you’ve ever made a donation, become a subscriber, been an early adopter, or shared some kindness and encouragement, thanks very much!
Congratulations @simon I am a subscriber and really value tiddlyhost, I would encourage everyone to subscribe so you are at a minimum compensated for any costs you incur, but also because if someone can see a return it helps motivate them to maintain, innovate and respond to outages, deservedly so.
We should be promoting a return for effort, but I thank you for going out of your way to deliver this essential part of the TiddlyWiki ecosystem without demanding payment. Thus call on anyone with the means to support you to do so.
Sorry for coming in late, but hearty congratulations @simon. TiddlyHost has been a pivotal part of the TiddlyWiki community all its life (as was TiddlySpot before that). Let’s toast to many more years ahead.
Thank you Simon for Tiddlyhost and happy 5th Birthday to it!
Tiddlyhost is not only useful to host and share wikis but also to share plugins, themes, tips, documentation, work in progress … and even to host plugin library.
Tiddlyhost is really contributing to TiddlyWiki ecosystem.
TiddlyHost (and TiddlySpot before it) had been a gift for this community and for the software commons. I used almost everyday for my personal notes and promote it with my students at the university and in my local hackerspace.
I think that a celebration for this and the upcoming years could be related with projects that TiddlyHost have made possible, from personal ones like hosting your bliki, to our TTRPG group place to linguistic revitalizing for indigenous people in the Colombian Amazonas. Mabye we could propose and curate places powered by TiddlyHost and showcase them more prominently in a place for celebrating the community that TH empowers.
Also I think this could be a moment to celebrate @simon as the main force behind these projects. Maybe a Ask Me Anything session hosted in this very forum could allow the rest of the community to know more about Simon’s motivations and more in general, if he is willing to participate.
