Hope you are having a great day today.
I’m writing to inform you that talk.tiddlywiki.org will be migrating to a new server as part of centralising our infrastructure.
What to expect
Scheduled downtime:
From 10:00 BST on Thursday 8th April, talk.tiddlywiki.org will be unavailable for a few hours whilst the migration takes place.
Data security:
All posts, accounts, messages and settings will be safely transferred.
Improved Performance
talk.tiddlywiki.org will look the same but performance should feel faster and more responsive.
No action is required on your part. Once this migration is complete you can continue using the forum as usual.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reply to this post or contact me on infrastructure@tiddlywiki.org
Is it possible to restore the previously-available forum theme(s)? Contextually, I think Sam’s Simple Theme was the one I had been using, and I really preferred it to the current default, especially on mobile.
The server migration has been successful with the exception of emails; they are currently disabled and am currently working on fixing it as soon as possible.
Yes, that was the first thing I checked. I do still have the same theme selected, but a number of aspects now look subtly different — link colors different, text substantially larger and line heights more cramped, slightly different font and icon SVGs, I think?
I don’t know how Discourse themes are implemented behind the scenes; perhaps these changes aren’t related to my chosen theme at all. But as I noticed the changes immediately after the site migration, and I haven’t changed anything on my end, my first thought was that perhaps some requisite stylesheet hadn’t survived the move.
The discourse version running previously was dramatically out of date. The simple theme is still available but the appearance of Discourse has changed somewhat since the previous version.
Yes that was the default theme when the migration ran. If you would like, I’d be happy to install a specific theme for you to select in your preferences?
@kjharcombe: I may have uncovered a bug: I no longer seem to be able to move posts.
A user created a new topic instead of adding to the current one (is that itself a bug with the email interface?) I went to move it into the existing thread, but while I could select posts, I could not move out of the “Select posts” interface except by cancelling it. I haven’t done this very often, but I’m pretty sure that on some selection confirmation I used to be presented with a choice of things to do, including Move Posts. I don’t see that now.
That’s strange. As soon as you select 1 item it should show the move button. My dialogue may look different, because it is Admin. … I checked your state and your are trust level 4, so you should be able to move … More investigation needed.
@Scott_Sauyet … Are you sure, it’s a new thread and not a private post. Private posts have rounded corners. … And I think a slightly different background
That’s clearly the issue. It was a private message, and I had no idea, because for my settings (mostly default ones) I saw no visual indicator that it was one. I only knew for sure by searching in my mailbox.
Still odd that I have the select messages interface but no way to use it, but I’m not very worried about that.
Thank you! This was driving me nuts.
And I guess I won’t need to move this chat back to the forum anyway, as he seems to be happy with the answer received.
