Suggestion - License Information in the empty.html file

I would like to suggest the license information for Tiddlywiki be included in the empty.html file in a way that is friendly and clear to new users with low tech skills. I don’t know what the best way to do this would be. Maybe include a line at the bottom of the GettingStarted tiddler that says something like,“Tiddlywiki is free open source software. Click here for details.” as well as in the control panel somewhere and the link could go to a license tiddler. The same one from tiddlywiki.com could just be included in the empty file.

Also maybe include the same or a similar line to the HelloThere tiddler on tiddlywiki.com.

As I’m building new Tiddlywiki’s I’ll be making a point to include the license tiddler from tiddlywiki.com.

Hi @PaulH

I’m generally very fond of explicitly stating licenses, especially FLOSS licenses, so I support your suggestion.
With TiddlyWiki though, you should proceed with caution. It’s a wiki, and although its code license is clearly established, its content license is up to the original content creator.

So you’ll either have to license your wikis’ content with the same license as TW itself, and make it clear it’s so, or you’ll have to choose a different license for your content, and inform your readers/users of each part’s license.

Just my 2 cents,

Fred

I support your suggestion. The TW license details can be found at TiddlyWiki5/licenses at master · TiddlyWiki/TiddlyWiki5 · GitHub.

TW SW has a BSD 3 clause and the content at tw-com has a CC-BY license.

As Fred wrote for your content or your plugins you can define your own licenses.

I think we should link to the core SW BSD license in the ControlPanel. There may be an easy configuration option for the content too.

Plugins have their own License tab. So we do not need something new here.
