I think this came up before, and I will say as I did before that we must be aware of a private companies limited openness and always be sceptical but I need to point out some of these critics arguments also deserve a high degree of scepticism as well.
- without putting up a blow by blow response to these criticisms many are wholly or partially incorrect and do not take into account the nature of the problem and solution.
- none of the issues raised will nessasarly impede the use of w3w along side and within tiddlywiki
I do get the feeling that these criticisms, although they may have some basis fact, do suggest a bias of sorts from the authors. Had such criticisms being less biased they would not poison the idea and relative value of w3w as much.
I have investigated w3w to a substantial degree in the past and even interacted with them in relation to the third dimension of height. I have also considered how such a solution works and feel they have made reasonable assumptions and rules. I doubt they are perfect but know they are not as imperfect as the critics suggest.
- for example if an earthquake moves my house I need to update its location just as I would if I move home or my house.
- by its nature you can’t use a language translator to convert one w3w address to another you must resort to a database lookup because there is no firm direct or deterministic relationship between all languages and sets of 3 words
