State of Play of Timimi after Chrome changes August 2025

Folks, I have moved my key wiki to tiddlywiki-app and still use Timimi in Firefox, but no longer in Chrome. Only now am I feeling forced to address this.

There has being a lot discussed earlier in the year, and some very interesting ideas, leads and options.

However it is a lot to read and so I thought I would raise a dated discussion topic to clarify. How have you adapted to this and what are the best solutions?

  • I use Edge/Chrome/Firefox and soon perhaps Opera on Windows 11
  • I also occasionaly use an android mobile and tablet, and may use an ipod touch.

State of Play of Timimi

Please respond if you can with a fully adopted solution before questions and speculation. If there are insufficent answers we can then explore speculation.

  • Ideally I think we are all looking for a set and forget method as Timimi offered.

In that prior thread, I explained how you can continue to use Timimi on all 3 platforms. You need to side-load an extension and then run the executable appropriate for your platform. Did you try that? If you don’t want to run the executable, you can also modify a text file (assuming you had previously run the original TImimi 1.0 installer)

As far as I know, none of this is speculative. It could be more convenient, but with almost no feedback, that was as far as I was prepared to take it.

My assumption is that most people have moved on from Timimi. To what, I don’t know, but most of my current daily use is with webdav and node.js.

Could you link to the relavant reply please?

With all due respect, I think that assumption is wrong. Perhaps original users are experimenting with other solutions, but it need not mean they do not want to continue to use Timimi if possible. My search showed a lot of discussion and a lot of reading needed to draw a conclusion as to the state of play hence this discussion.

  • Thanks for your reply.

Ok, I apologise – not everything for Windows is in the same thread.

Here’s the post that talks about side-loading an extension, and describes how you can hand-edit the accompanying text fix.

The instructions for hand-editing Windows are re-iterated here:

Here’s the presentation for the executable installer for windows. Tried by one person (beside myself). You can do a virus scan and see what it says now.

Here’s a direct link to the Windows executable:
