Screen reader accessibility

Hi all. I just recently discovered Tiddly Wiki. I installed the desktop version titled tiddlydesktop-win32-v0.0.20. I am running Windows 11. I am blind and using the JAWS for Windows (JAWS) screen reader, version 2025.2503.39. When I first open the Tiddlydesktop after extracting the zip folder and open nw.exe, it seems to open the Tiddly Desktop application. I can tab through the buttons on the screen, when I activate the Add Wiki button with either the Spacebar or Enter keys, nothing seems to happen. Is it supposed to open a new wiki?

It should open up a file dialog that allows you to navigate to an existing tiddlywiki HTML file.

Interesting. It does not do that for me. I thought that was the button for creating a new file… I can’t even find a control for creating a new file using my JAWS screen reader.

Thanks.

If you tab through the options, there should be a create wiki option.

Welcome to tiddlywiki and this community!

With Tiddlydesktop open, you should find 6 buttons in the toolbar. Add wiki file, Add wiki folder, Create new wiki, Settings, Help, Backstage.
If you use tab to navigate, I found that I have to tab 2 times to get from button 1 to button 2 and from 2 to 3. The last 3 buttons works with one tab. (Very confusing).

Add wiki file button open a file dialog to select an existing singlefile tiddlywiki from you system.
Add wiki folder button does the same, just for folder Tiddlywikies.
Create new wiki button, is the one you want. Pres enter, and a dropdown menu will have some options. Create from template: empty tiddlywiki file (prerelease, Empty tiddlywiki file, clone an existing wiki.
I guess you would want the empty tiddlywiki file.

Below the toolbar with the buttons, is a search field. Your tiddlywikies be listed below that.

Now the title of you wiki will be shown in a big rectangel. In this the title and below yet more buttons.

Confusing enough I find even without the need for screen reader. I hope you get some advice from others using screen reader.
