I am actively learning about Discourse, and it is still a challenge finding my way around but here are a few discoveries from the coal face.
You can bookmark most locations in discourse to return directly if you wish, some will include your user ID and be unique to you.
I found a good way to look as various views of your conversations is the activity item.
once in there the left column allows quick movement between different lists.

The all option at the above location is a great way to return to a discussion where you recently participated. This how I got here now.

I tested the Download all, you get a zip file with multiple csv files. And full content on posts!
This is great if you produce a lot of instructions because you can download all your content (With Images maybe not) at any point.
This is quicker, easier and more advanced than anything I could get from Google Groups.
On a Topic you created there is the following right hand side bar (snapshot at bottom of this post)
The Edit relates to the whole topic,
Of particular interest to me is the Topic timer, it allows you to set a sunset date for a topic, which is great if say you called for agenda items for a meetup, you could then auto close on the date after the meetup. This removes distractions from discord when something is no longer relevant.
At the bottom, You can choose notification options with the bell, or reply to the topic rather than a specific reply.
At the bottom of each thread you have these buttons;
Using the Share button you can select notify
And then notify another user about this topic without using the @name mention
