Meta Comments On Discourse With Mettā

Looking at Discourse—after a bit of use—some issues came up …

FIRST, I can say the existence of both CATEGORIES & TAGS is a definite plus.

In particular the Categories form a really wholesome, minimalist, broad, system for presenting major topic areas ( :+1: :+1: :+1:). And filtering by categories is pretty clear in the interface. On that it IS much better than GG.

I assume that categories are created by Admins? Yeah. Keep it as minimal as possible?

ONE Meta Category I would like to see added is something like “Showcase” — What I mean is that we do all this work in TW but actually we don’t tend to point much to real outcomes. By “SHOWCASE” I do NOT mean a demo of a technical innovation. Rather I mean complete TW already publicly in the wild.

Discourse minimalism on categories MIGHT provide a way to better, via a “Showcase” category, filter down to only those premium cases? I think it invaluable that potential users of TW can get to see working TW that are NOT about how TW works.

Of course being concerned with all of this is also about cultivating Mettā Bhāvanā towards all sentient GG users.

Just thoughts

I think everyone likes the term Showcases from the little mini poll:

I’ll set this up later today.

Shall the more involved users change the Categories to an appropriate one. I can think of a question, that was answered being changed to “How To” or someone publishing a demo wiki to “showcases”?
