I just saw this, 51 SPAMS in 5 minutes and growing …
How can we help the admins?
TT
I dunno. But this is the worst real SPAM attack I have seen directly.
If ever there a case to BLOCK auto-credentials this is it?
Regular users can’t do much to help:
You’ve performed this action too many times. Please wait 22 hours before trying again.
See:
Makes no sense. It is likely a story blockage.
Very practical broheim. Useful, I hope, in the current onslaught.
I see your 22 hours and raise to a 23 hour delay!
I’m merely blocked for 1 hour before “performing the actions” again, after “reporting as spam” on several of them.
I wonder though, does my “reporting as spam” actually hide the posts from everybody or does my “reporting” merely forward the problem to some super admin ( @Mario ) so they have to do the same thing again? I’m guessing super admin has tools to properly delete posts but most “lightweight admins” like myself don’t - right?
Still though, this is untenable and we need a real solution. If possible, a less end user intrusive blockage would be to block anything talking about delta airlines which I think is acommon denominator in the posts (or?)
I did disable registration temporarily
@Mario suggest requiring approval for new registrations rather than suspending them altogether.
I agree. Approval first.
I did change the registration setting to “Staff must approve …” – for now
A general question, since I did disable all e-mail notifications in my settings.
Did you get a lot of spam notifications from our Talk e-mail service.
@jeremyruston … Did you get a lot of spam notifications?
My impression is that I only see notifications for messages that haven’t been moderated in the few minutes that elapse between a post and it appearing as an email.
The flag limit was 20 – I did change it 40 for the time being.
I only got one spam related email in my inbox.
Good!
That is because @pmario is a very good moderator.
At one point there was over 100 spam messages.
