I am trying to code a custom-search for a plugin - and for this purpose I looked at the advanced-search-tab-tiddlers.
The code around the key-driven-input-macro appears very similar to me in each tiddler.
Would it be possible/usefull to replace the whole part with a macro that can be re-used elsewhere?

I’ve thought about this a few times. There a few places in TW where essentially static UI bits and pieces could be reused. It can be done by reverse engineering, like you’ve tried, but it could be made easier, I think.
It also puts me in mind of this:
I think for something that fosters microcontent, reuse of its OOTB component parts should be a first priority
