Introduction to new Infrastructure Team Leader

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using TiddlyWiki for the past two years to keep track of my many interests and all the random things I plan to revisit someday. In my free time, you’ll usually find me reading, collecting comics, or reviewing movies.

As I begin my role as Infrastructure Team Leader, I’d like to open the floor to any feedback or ideas about our infrastructure and online presence. Whether it’s something that’s been bothering you, a gap you’ve noticed, or an improvement you’ve been thinking about, I’d really like to hear it.

I’m looking forward to working with you all and helping ensure our infrastructure remains reliable, sustainable, and supportive to everyone in our community.

Thanks,

Keiran

I was delighted when Keiran volunteered for this role a few weeks ago. He has relevant experience and enthusiasm, and is generously prepared to commit to a formal role. (Of course, we’d welcome other volunteers for the team, too, there’s plenty to do).

One of the tasks that Keiran will be leading is to take over running the Discourse instance behind https://talk.tiddlywiki.org/, making it easier for us to manage customisations and upgrades. I’m also hoping that we’ll be able to reuse TalkTW user accounts with other, new community resources.

In particular, working with @Arlen22 we hope to start running a community instance of MultiWikiServer. In the first instance, it will probably just be a tool for the project teams to collaborate, and to publish and update sites like tw.org. But, as a community, we will also need to think about offering a broader, publicly available service, and discuss the basis on which we might want to run one.

Keiran is also helping with some organisational infrastructure. For example, there is $5,641.96 that has been donated to TiddlyWiki via OpenCollective. In order to access it we need to set up a new non-profit, and open a bank account. Keiran has experience of all that through his involvement in running a UK-based charity.

I am keen to formalise TiddlyWiki to become a more self-sustaining and transparent open source project. There are many aspects of the TiddlyWiki project where I still have personal ownership and responsibility. For example, the DNS registrar for the TiddlyWiki domains is Joker in Germany, where I also host my personal and business domains. A few years ago I shared access with Saq as backup, but it really needs to be managed properly within the community.

I could go on, there are so many things we could be doing better as a project. Please join me in welcoming Keiran, and helping him in finally addressing those things.

Best wishes

Jeremy
