As a sceptic myself I did need to say something when some implications were made that such things may be true. You could say it was to seek balance. The “west” although post enlignment, still has seriouse problems with superstition and for everyone who thinks such things are “just for fun” they influence someone else who starts to belive it. The internet allows people who have unsubstantiated and irrational ideas to find others who share these ideas, unlike in the past where people may abandon such ideas in the face of social rejection, few agreeing agreeing with them or ostrasisation.
Current trends demonstrate humanity has no innate forces that ensure progress. It takes hard work and vigilance to avoid the reemergence of superstitious thinking and “just for fun” is a poor excuse.
