Given the shennigans with Twitter at present, I’m wondering whether a plugin similar to the one available for tweets (Embedding a person’s latest tweets into a tiddler used as a Contact Entry) is likely to be developed.
Beyond my skill set, unfortunately…
I don’t really have the time or knowledge right now but an avenue to pursue is the fact that Mastodon has built in RSS feeds. I think twitter might as well or did in the past and I suspect that is what the plug in is based on.

Of note “Your feed URL is [instance]/users/[username].rss or .atom…”
This would probably be the “easiest” place to start.
