Community and Discourse etiquette

Folks,

I would like to start a discussion on community etiquette. Basically the informal rules to how we address each other and how we use Discourse. Examples may include when to use the @user method. What is the meaning of the heart or thumbs up, is this a way of voting to see crowd support? Which categories and tags to use and how to request support for new methods categories and tags. Reporting inappropriate content, limits on advertising etc…

I imaging the starting point is the Guidelines here

I think the TW community has always been very welcoming and friendly community. … I expect it to be the same here.

Me too Mario. I just thought it would be easy to direct new users to the collected standards if they stray or just to enhance and support use. This is also one way to reduce the time and effort of volunteers supporting the community.

BTW, if you don’t make at least one “like” post, and receive one, you can’t become a full Discourse member. I suspect the meaning of the emoji’s is deliberately kept vague in order to prevent arguments.

I like your post because I do not understand the meaning of most of them in relation to group discussions about Tiddlywiki. Emojis are used everywhere, and often with accusations of using them wrongly and about using them - sometimes getting into heated discussions. I am sure the selection here has a meaningful explanation - please?

What, you don’t know what a little rocket ship flying away means? I thought it should be obvious :apple: :eyes: :tophat: !

To think of all those hours I wasted in composition classes learning how to put together better structured paragraphs and documents! Little did I know that I should have been boning up on the subtle meaning of tiny little icons. Now it turns out I’m emoji-illiterate (emojiliterate ?) :lion: :ox: :desert_island: :mosque: :gift: !!
