Color / colour picker wish list

  1. Saved colors that last beyond the current session

  2. Set default color format. That is, I would like to set “Hex” as the default color format so I don’t have to click repeatedly to get to it from the default RGB.

Number One can be done.
New Image >Colour Picker >Type in the Hex value you want /or if it has an HTML colour name, write that (Blue) or (SteelBlue).
Next: CLICK on the colour to use it. You don’t need to use it, though.
The colours are saved to a system Tiddler called: $:/config/ColourPicker/Recent
Open that tiddler
in the field called “list”, you will see all the colours you called for
Of course, from here you could create a long list of colours you need and they will be there in the colour picker next time.

Hi Alfie, thanks for the reply.

I did what you said, but when I do an advanced search for $:/config/ColourPicker/Recent, it doesn’t come up in either systems or shadows. What comes up in advanced search is $:/core/macros/colour-picker.

Incidentally, that tiddler it says the limit is 8 colors. So maybe the long list of colors you suggested adding would not work.

Hi Dave,
I took another look at it. Indeed, it’s just like you said, 1. couldn’t find it ($:/config/ColourPicker/Recent). And, 2. The limit is set to [8].

  1. $:/config/ColourPicker/Recent doesn’t exist, so you can create it. In it, include a “list” field with all the colours you will need. Don’t worry about the [8] limit…

Instead,
2. go back to the $:/core/macros/colour-picker you were able to find and try changing the [8] to [100]. I’m sure you could try even more.

Changes will be saved (unlike with shadow Tiddlers).

ooooooooh wait…the saved colors was on a previous version of the color picker. The new picker doesn’t even allow saved colors. Certainly that is why the “Recent” tiddler doesn’t exist, as it is useless. Sorry I wasted your time because of my forgetfulness!

There is a new PR in GitHub by Jeremy which overhaul the color manipulation in TiddlyWiki. I highly recommend having a look. I am helpful, to have it in TW 5.3.7.
