Color background of fields to categorize them

I’m working on a wiki sorting plants. Those tiddlers have a lot of fields for classification. I would like to change the background color of the fields editing line by the prefix they use. Is there an easy way or is it not a good idea ? Or even have a tabbed presentation of those different categories of fields to shorten the visible list and easier editing…

Hi Thomas,

That’s an interesting field. …

Your request is new. We have a possibility to create custom field inputs, but they mainly change the input value behaviour.

I can see your problem and it is valid.

A question:

Are your field naming prefixes needed to make TW sort them in the right order or are they “native” to your data-set. HDF_ seems to be native.

To assign a background colour, those “group” prefixes are useful. But if they should be removed, because the colour or something else should be used for grouping, then we have a problem.

Because removing or changing the prefix will influence the background colour logic. …

For TW we use the type-field to identify the tiddler type. So your “B_Type” has to be different to the TW type.

You use the tag: plante. Can this tag be used to identify tiddlers, that need the custom field handling?

Are there different “field layouts” needed? So other tags that need a different handling than the one you showed here?

Are there mandatory fields that have to be there to be valid. So there is one or more field names, that we can use to identify that a tiddler needs special field handling - OR - should it be tag driven?

Can you export the tiddler you posted as JSON and post here. So we do not need to type those field names ourself?

I am just trying to create a small DB of plants that we need to use in our region while creating architectural projets. Wa have acces to differents sources (plant sellers web sites, local indexes, lists provided by differnt councils). Each of them have some criterias to categorize those plants, at least a usual name and a scientific name.

From there, my concern is to use TW to be the media to sort and file thoses datas. The fields I have listed are just my creation from one or two sources. I named them myself in the more logical way I could find to group them by a kind of categorsation (capital prefixes) while doing that, seing that quit long list of fields, I thought it would be nice to color them to make them more readable.

To anwer your questions:

  • the tag plante (plant) is for the moment set to identify the tiddlers using thoses fields
  • I don-t think that different layouts would be needed in this TW but for other TW I could seee a interesting point to be able to do so.
  • It coul be field driven, if I understand your concern here: if the B_Espece is present, the tiddler is part of the tiddlers that have to be treated with a certain presentation of the fields..

I join a Json to share the field names.
