An End-Of-Year Christmas Talk -Anyone?

Would be a nice community thing.

What… Speak to each other… Can we get a plugin for that?! it’s not a bad idea!

I’m up.

@EricShulman Do you think using Discord might be the way to go this time?

Discord has screen sharing so we can demo our stuff and has no time limit (unlike Google Meet, which has a 1-hour limit for free use).

I have Zoom pro and would be happy to organize a meeting with no time limit, too. I don’t have anything to demo, but would love to see what people are doing, to the extent that I can understand it.

Me too.

Of note is I have been having a few informal sessions recently search for “Sydney TWIG”

I am interested in attending such an event.

Will it be recorded for folk unable to partake?

We might start by submitting preferred dates and times. What is your preferred time and date in your time zone? I’ll do my best to accommodate everyone. Please message me.

Anytime outside 10pm to 6am ADST Australian Daylight savings time GMT/UTC +11 would suit me but what we have done in the past is to have a long running session allowing drop in and out, as well as recording the session.

That sounds more reasonable. Never thought of that.

Thanks @AlfieA, that’s a great suggestion, and I would be delighted to come along.

In terms of dates, I’ll be happy to fit in with the majority, but it would be slightly easier for me if it was a few days before Christmas (or perhaps in the later half of New Year’s Day, or the day after).

I am looking at 19, 20 and 21.
Here’s what I’m reading are the factors:
Eric and Coda have mentioned Discord. Looks good. Can everyone sign in for that?
Dave and Tones prefer Zoom.
TW Tones and I are in the Eastern Hemisphere. But as he says, this could be a drop in, drop out talk.
Jeremy says: a few days before Christmas. Or even around the New Year.

All good points.
So, December 20. What do you people think? I’ll be opening up my tea room in December. I’d be willing to host it from there.

Discord is my preference (as well as free, it doesn’t require a pre-planned meeting room - it exists for anyone to join or leave at any time for meetings pre-organised (like this) or ad-hoc). But zoom doesn’t bother me either, so long as someone has a paid account to run it from.

Whether I can actually make it will depend on timings - and my own christmas timings aren’t yet known anyway (oh, and I’m UTC+10)

20th seems like a nice round number. It’s a Saturday.

For me, I have a good friend’s birthday on the 20th and people often take part in festive in-person activities on Saturdays, so Sunday 21st seems better in my mind as the archetypal “quiet day” of the week.

Thank you, Yan.
So, let’s make it 21st or 22nd? Or 23rd? Or 17th, 18th or 19th?
