A multi-column Layout / Storyview

Hi folks,

there are now a bunch of new Keyboard Shortcuts and they need testing
So, if you like, please test them and report me if their behavior is Ok or if you would change anything
Especially the move-right and move-left shortcuts… should they also change the active column to the one where the tiddler is moved to? Do they work reliably?

I would really appreciate your feedback, to the shortcuts and overall to the layout

Thank you and best wishes,
Simon

Just looked on android Firefox and chrome. Neither selecting a column from the sidebar or swiping/ scrolling left/ right works!

I’ve seen that now, thanks for reporting @Ste_W !

I’ll investigate

It should be fixed now @Ste_W , thanks again

Yep that’s got it!
Is there a way to get tidderlers to move from one column to another on mobile?

(edited for clarity)

I’m planning to add buttons for that @Ste_W , thanks for remembering me

Thanks @Ste_W ,

there are two buttons now to move tidderlers from one column to another
the language files are missing at the moment, they will come at a later point

Cheers to you!
Simon

It is useful to have that possibility now!

Grazie mille!

Left button works as expected. Right button seems to make tiddlers close. Android Ff.

No… I’m talking rubbish. Works fine.

After a page reload maybe it worked fine. I had a version online where it didn’t work well

Question: should we navigate to the next/previous column when we move a tiddler there?

It’s a good question. Don’t know. Worth a try

Animation needs to indicate which way the tiddler has moved. For me it always animates left even when going right!

I’ll test it out and decide then

Very good point
I don’t know if I can make that happen, but I will have a look

Perhaps it would be a good idea if the different behaviors could be triggered using modifier-Keys.
To me normal behaviour would be scrolling to the open instance, clicking with modifier would result in opening a secound instance.

I cannot change the fact that it’s possible to open tiddlers twice or more times from the sidebar for example. In that case it’s impossible to determine which tiddler should be scrolled into view…

Hi @Ste_W ,

in a few minutes the version with better animations is online
I hope that now it animates like you imagined

There are some open issues regarding KeyboardShortcuts:

  • should we navigate to the column where we move a tiddler to (and should it become the active column) ?
  • should the moved tiddler become the focused tiddler?
  • maybe more

UPSIDE: They all work on my Windows 10 (tablet with physical keyboard) well. They make sense and enable you to do most anything if you got a keyboard.

(MINOR DOWNSIDE: there are a few limits in what you can do in the onscreen keyboard on my Windows tablet. Mainly caused by things like a “Home” & “End” keys being somewhat elusive. I’m pretty sure one could find on onscreen keyboard that has them but “out-of-the-box” there a few things that won’t work from lack of onscreen keys. BUT I don’t think it is a major problem.)

If I get time I’ll look at what happens on my Chromebook tablet.

Best, TT

I was about to ask these same questions. It depends on the context for moving the tiddler across the columns I think. Can we have both options which can be user configurable. Will it make everything complicated?

Thanks for adding all the shortcuts. Now we can navigate through columns using keyboard shortcuts alone.

I noticed a few bugs with shortcuts.

  1. When I am keeping amount of columns in horizontal view as 1 and using Alt+S to get the horizontal view, always the first column is shown even if the 2nd or 3rd columns is the current active column.
  2. Ctrl-Alt-M/N to remove and add columns were not working in my windows laptop in chrome browser - I had to change the shortcuts to make it working. In Firefox I guess it was working. But now when I used Ctrl-Alt-M/N , all the tiddlers from all columns are getting disappeared.

But all keyboard shortcuts are configurable. We can use which ever suit our working environment.
