Lost 4 hours of content and code because Tiddlywiki doesn't automatically save

There is no way to go back to what what I wrote is there?

Possibly not. It depends how you are using it and where it is. It is recommended the very first thing you do is to check it is saving. You can download a copy as any emergency save if you have not left it.

When set it can save automaticaly.

Where are you using it or opening it so we can help?

We already had a long thread on this topic.

After you have decided how to save you can activate an auto save function in the general saving options.

If you are using a single file Tiddlywiki in your browser then it’s important to understand that browsers will generally prevent applications like Tiddlywiki from saving information where-ever and when-ever they like, browsers are fussy about this to protect you when you surf the web.

People new to Tiddlywiki who are just using their regular browser and a single file tiddlywiki sometimes get frustrated and blame Tiddlywiki without realising that Tiddlywiki is having to work within the constraints placed on it by the browser.

There are advantages…

You get an app you don’t have to install.

Your Tiddlywiki will work on your phone and your laptop

It’s just one file - data and application all in one file - actually your whole wiki is really just one massive webpage that allows you to select the content you want to see at any time.

If you work on say Android or Windows now and decide to buy an Apple product your file will work seamlessly on the new platform.

If you are on a latop (windows or linux) and are not already using TiddlyDesktop then this might be your next port of call.

Similarly for an Android phone or tablet you might like to look at Tiddloid which is the equivalent.

There is something similar for Apple products but someone else can tell you about that.

TiddlyDesktop and Tiddloid are both uncomplicated “craddles” that manage the browser for you and make autosaving a little easier. TiddlyDesktop involves more resposibility on your behalf simply that after a while you may choose to clean out some older saves to reclaim some diskspace but it’s not difficult or arduous especially when you consider the cost of losing work.

I’m sorry to hear that you lost your changes…
In my experience, the easiest/best saving methods are the following:

Without install:

With install:

  • timimi: best solution if you want automatic backups

Processing: Timblywiki_3 (2) (2).html…
I’m opening it on computer, chrome.

I always recommend TidGi-Desktop for new users, for Obsidian level experience.

Decided to download Timimi, and now it’s saving the work. Decided to remake the process, and became cautious to not lose it anymore. thanks to everyone who commented.
